Mods if this is the wrong place for this, please move it or message me.

I'm Mike (from Concord Ca), and just picked up my first 2002.
This will be my first car build so there will be some learning involved on my end.  However, I'm no stranger to new stuff, fabricating, or wrenching.
Prior to this I've worked on lots of rigs, just mainly for Off Road purposes.   I changed careers 8 years ago making my hobby a career.  I currently teach Auto Shop at Clayton Valley Charter HS in Concord, so I have access to pretty much any tool I need.

Current Condition

1975 2002 Basket Case

Has Sunroof

Minimal rust/a few dings

No Drivetrain

Front subframe is out/need to install it before I bring it home.

Exterior trim/lights etc has been removed but I'll get them.

Bought from my friend who has a shop.  It's been sitting for a few years.   He was planning on fixing it up, but got pre-occupied with his own 2002, as well as a few others.

Plans:

Since I'm starting with an almost clean slate, I'm been researching & thinking about my goals.

It won't be a classic restoration, but a resto-mod driver that I'd like to have fun with.

Not to piss off the purists, but plans as of now are:

Honda Engine (I have access to what I believe is a nice K engine that has been rebuilt.. .kinda a long story).
Honda S2000 AP1 Transmission (picked it up last week, needs synchros which are on order).

Once I get drivetrain squared away, plan is to make it drivable in close to stock condition.

Future upgrades planned:

Steering (newer BMW R&P)
Suspension upgrades

Brake upgrades (Volvo or whatever).

Upgraded rear/gears/LSD

Fender flares etc

Ditch rear seat and add a cage

Welcome to the club!

Good for you for turning your hobby into a career and teaching the next generation. I went through the college of Alameda automotive program.

Your plan's sound good except for the rack and pinion, many people have tried to improve the 2002 steering with a rack and pinion with little success.

Nice Scout with a Chevy drivetrain!! I had to work on a Scout with the stock drivetrain once, never again. Your Chevy drivetrain should be pretty much bulletproof and lots of fun!

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
