If BMW parts get too expensive, swap in a Honda F22!?

The Sacrilege, who would do such Evil?

but if they did they could buy 4 motors for the price of 1 -S14 and have a 6 speed attached

Apparently, S14 motors are headed in the same direction as the housing market.  Yes, it was a very nice, stock example and included a Getrag 265 transmission, but at this price it has me rethinking my strategy for the 1600 I'm building.

Possibly the best solution 15 years ago when S14's were reasonable, now e30 M3's are so expensive I wouldn't swap the motor out

^ Damn that’s sexy! Is that Nevada ?

That is what Nevada is suppose to look like, dark tan with olive undertones!  Unfortunately, you can only get it from Glasurit in their 22-Line.  I agonized about the final color for this car for weeks.  Numerous spray-outs later (Turkis, Bakail, Reseda Green, Derby, Florida, Opal Green, Cypress Green, Nevada), I settled on Nevada, the original color of this BMW 1600.  The owner of this car got the correct paint color for Nevada.  I hope mine looks as good out of the booth.

I don't know if they still do. Four liters or a gallon of single stage 22 line with hardener and reducer costs about $1,400.

Mine was mix to use, 1 Gallon, $900 and change.  My painter has shot this paint before, stripped to bare metal and sealed.  That's part of the reason it's been in the shop for 1.5 years.  I'll let you know how it turns out.

My plan was all along to do a S14 but not with the prices I’m 2nd guessing that. I went looking but couldn’t find any threads comparing built M10 and built M20 swaps and how they compare to a S14. Anyone have any info they can link me too?  Ideally I would like a set up around 200-220hp and with efi

There are not many direct comparisons .... I suspect one of the camps would be less inclined.

Here's an interesting clip though ... two quick drag pulls featuring a stock 2.5L M20 swapped 2002 and a stroker 2.5L S14 E30M3

Also .... spent a long time developing the humbly-named Ultimate Street Stroker M20 (2.9L) Engine.  It'll get you a zippy 220-235whp w/ near OEM reliability, sound amazing, and look period correct (being part of the single-cam engine line).  Not cheap, but very very very fun.  If that swap is one you want to explore, i'm happy to help answer questions.

Food for thought ... so much fun to be had!

F20C Honda would check those boxes (+few hp's) without any building but installation. Quite many people think that the cars' spirit is lost if  wrong make engine is put in but I don't quite get that. I feel it suits better than any 6-cylinder, but I do get those looks, even with a racecar.

I am fortunate to have an S14, but instead of putting it in an '02 (I'd have to buy a third one that doesn't run), I'm waiting for the right M3 to come along that needs a motor (either a roller or one someone has swapped).

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
