Official Announcement:

Legends Of The Autobahn® Relocating To Monterey County Fairgrounds
8/9/21 Update: Due to unforeseen circumstances presented to event organizers in the final stages of planning, the eleventh annual Legends Of The Autobahn® West, presented by Michelin, will be relocated from Carmel Valley Village to the Monterey County Fairgrounds.
The all-German marque Concours d’Elegance, which has become a pillar of the Monterey Car Week schedule will proceed at the fairgrounds on the originally scheduled date of Saturday, August 14, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Hosted by the BMW Car Club of America, Audi Club North America, and Mercedes-Benz Club of America, the event will showcase over 300 member-owned cars and feature special displays from manufacturers, sponsors, and vendors.
“It is with great surprise and regret that we announce the move of Legends from Carmel Valley to the Monterey County Fairgrounds,” said Frank Patek, BMW CCA Executive Director. “After months of planning, meticulous adherence to the Monterey County Special Event permitting process, approval from the core agencies such as MFD and CHP—and attaining approval from each—still new hurdles and barriers were being placed in front of us as late as this week. Coincidentally, difficulties with the County began at or nearly the same time as the Carmel Valley Association (residents) launched a campaign to stop Legends from “destroying” the rural character of the valley.”

Judged cars enter at Gate 6 at 7 and not before, Display cars enter at 8 and park in the arena, spectators arrive at 9 at Gate 5 just to the west.  There is no spectator parking, you are on your own.  There will be no 2002, e9 or M cars dedicated parking on the judged field.  Display cars could arrive together to park in the Display area.

The CCA will send this info to everyone registered.  And be sure to have your digital ID that the CCA sent to you a month ago which simplified the liability waiver process at the entry gate.

That is really a bummer.  Going from where it was to the Fairgrounds is (in my opinion) a real knock.  The fairgrounds are relatively small, if anything close to the numbers pre-Covid show up (display, show, parking), its going to be real interesting.  I was contemplating going, I think I will pass this year.

4 hours ago, Autostrada said:

I got an issue with that name; "Legends of the Autobahn". It smacks too much of the "Creator" of the Autobahn. His name is not worth mentioning.

Why not "Legends of the Autostrada" ?

I dunno, maybe because BMW, Mercedes and Audi are German Marques and Autostrada is an Italian expressway?

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
