What to make of these repairs?

In my search for a 2002. I found one in Pastel Blau. I love this color! But I found some potential issues in the photos.

It looks like the rear quarter got whacked and repaired with what looks like a lap weld? There must be boat load of bondo along that seam. Then I found the repair to the floor!

Well, uh...

from those 2 pictures, I can't really tell.

Looks like a rusty floor repair that wasn't finished,

and what you're seeing in the trunk looks like the standard reinforcement on a square tail...

That floor welding, tho... phew, I usually grind it off and try again when mine goes like that.

+1 on Toby's comments, square light cars had that reinforcement glued in yours's look like the glue is still good so that's all fine, Defiantly a floor repair on the passenger front floor I would carefully lift the carpet and look to see if it's completely welded all around and not just tacked in a few spots and covered with seam sealer, if there is seam sealer on the inside I would suspect it's just tacked in there.

I'd look real hard for other issues, and if I found nothing glaring I wouldn't be too concerned... ... for a driver.

I probably won't be pursuing this car, for a few reasons. But mainly because of the distance I'd have to travel to inspect it. Thanks for educating me about the fender reinforcement. I really appreciate that members here take time to explain and teach us newbs!

That floor repair looks horrible, I see lots of goop and rust. Can't tell if they welded it at all.

I wouldn't waste my time on a car like that.

+1 but they welded horribly (you can see lots of little wire bits)

I guess he didn't have a grinder. You need to either learn to weld well or grind good, there is no substitute. there is no excuse for leaving wire bits like that.

Could be a Pillsbury pie plate, who gives a fuck. But I guess everybody who replied above me does. Buy it cheap, drive it hard.

I don't know if it is reinforcement or just a piece of sound/vibration dampening material.

I definitely came from the factory that way, as did the passenger side.

I think it's a attempt to prevent the kink that occurs above the wheel well in a rear ender at least up to the 5mph limit for the bumpers, It work sorta.

If that front floor board is the only real issue, that is easily fixable.   Just cut it out and start over!   I've seen much worse, mine!

My car is also Pastel Blue.   You're right.   Beautiful color.   My car is a mess, but I got it as a steal and it runs and drives.    I will fix it a little at a time.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
