Help identifying relay

Recommended Posts

Converted the engine to dual side draft carbs last year and finally going through and cleaning up all of the loose wires. Seems like the majority of them that were plugged into sensors on the intake manifold (don't remember which sensors they were...) were going to this relay on the driver side of the firewall.

Can anyone help identify this relay so I can understand the consequences of chasing all of these wires down and removing the relay..

Thanks all.

Even without knowing what it "relays", you can just remove it and see if something you want to turn on, doesn't.  Otherwise, review the wiring diagrams for your year of 2002 with all those wires coming out of a relay.  Most likely emissions related, so unnecessary.

It's probably the EGR relay....found on '74-'76's. There is also a similar Choke relay, but only used with the original Solex 2-barrel.

Check the wire colors per my attached sketch.

If you are running dual Webers, then no need for any of the smog stuff.....Lucky you!

@nhep23, that relay is either EGR choke relay or SPEED control relay presumably this is on the same car (74'02) that you picked up on the way to Denver.

From its location on the firewall per OP picture it is most likely EGR choke relay as suggested by John76.

@Buckeye - Correct, this is the same '74. What exactly does the SPEED control relay do? Am I safe to remove both the EGR and SPEED relay along with the associated wires? Not sure if it talks to any other systems. Thanks for the help!
