You mean he's not taking it out too?

I'm taking both windows out tomorrow and taking it to the glass shop on the 13th.  Figure I will have to do some rehab of the channels or at least a good cleaning and minor rust rehab that I would rather do myself than trust a shop to do it right. Plus it's extremely time consuming. Hope it's minor, but will know tomorrow after I cut out the old seals and pull the glass.  Maybe I'll post some picture of what I found?

I do know I've used at least 2 full tubes of clear flow able silicon on the front seal over the years and various spot applications under the lip since I bought the car.  The back seal has also received a few "treatments" of silicone over the years.

Window gasket seals are a pet peeve of mine. Every car I've owned over the last 30 years has always has bad windshield seals including my Karmann Ghia. This time I'm hoping w/ the OEM gaskets and the extra glazing/bedding compound I may for once have a decently sealed windshield!  I'm always optimistic.

Butyl sealant works well

Is that similar to the 3M product above? I imagine the shop has various products to choose from. Just don't want to piss them off by being too involved in their work.

Got busy this morning. Removed the windows and seals. As I was cutting the seals if felt pretty crusty so I knew there was going to be rust issues.  After a bit of scraping, and sanding I'm actually relieved to find no rust through, just areas of fairly severe pitting. Still more sanding before I treat for rust. Think I'll eventually hit it with Ospho and then paint the channel w/ some grey POR 15 and then some careful brushing of Chaminix White up to the exposed edges where needed.

All in all a good morning.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
