Tilux Rocker Trim Question

Hello All,

 

My '67 Tilux's rockers are in need of repainting and in order to do so the stainless trim needs to be removed. They are currently attached with rivets (!) and that is quite likely incorrect. The car was repainted once in its life and I assume that the rivets were used at that time. I would think that slotted screws are correct for the period (?) and welcome input from those who know the correct hardware

My Series 1 tilux was repainted (several times) when I purchased it, but always poorly and with original paint under the stainless trim.  The trim was held on with small Phillips head screws, most of which I had to slot with a Dremel tool and remove with a slotted screwdriver.

I have a feeling my fairly unmolested but buggered parts car has that trim riveted on. Will try and remember to check later

The ones from my 1800/69 have probably never been removed and are fixed with small rivets.

But they aren't in stainless steel. ?

Those plastic door sill trims in your photos should be attached by rivets, as were mine, correctly, I believe.  The screws that I was referring to are along the bottom edge of the stainless trim pieces.

OK sorry, I didn't got it.

On my younger version these parts are fixed by plastic clips.

No problem, Frederic.  You have the series 2, which has entirely different trim pieces.

The screws are 2.85mm dia., 13mm in length, Phillips Pan head sheet metal screws.  There are 6 on the bottom of each sill trim.  On the top edge of the stainless trim, under the plastic pieces, there were pop rivets, 3 per door.
