Original 1974 2002 Recaros - never seen them b4

Hi.

Got the same ones in my white 73. Unfortunately have no pictures. They have the lil lever that sticks up, and a knob on the side, to adjust the rake. Definitely not e21 gear. Were in car when bought off PO, who re-upholstered them in beige, and he sez that his PO had them in there. No insight as to if they were 02 or recaro off the shelf seats. Checked in BMW Mobile Tradition parts catalogue, and recaros are listed, on 52/22 and 52/33.

They look different to these ones, and mine. Note plastic bit on the rake control thing. In the book, they look taller and possibly metal. Also, the tilt thing is forward of the pivot.

They are not bad seats, I like em, but the elastic is shot on the passenger side, and i gotta hear about it every time i got a bitchy passenger. Also, the foam on the driver's side seat is a bit squashed, and after a while, my back gets a lil sore from leaning against a solid steel plate. (wouldn't wanna be unrestrained rear passenger in a crash. Goodbye kneecaps.)passenger seat fine though. Will bet crappy upholsteror used cheapass materials.

Sorry i don't have any pics, but just imagine yer foto in beige and a lil metal recaro badge in the middle and you're there...

Goood luck, if u go ahead with em may you enjoy many long hours of period comfort...

Those don't appear to be the "factory 2002" sports seats--see pix in MacCartney's restoration book. The factory 02 sports seats have the same seat release knobs and bezels as the regular seats, and look more angular than these. BMW UK sold a lot of UK only accessories; these seats may be some of 'em. Look pretty cool, and I'll bet more comfortable than the stock seats.

Cheers

Mike

I'm not sure if these are actually original BMW seats, but I could be wrong. I say that because I have a set of the early BMW Recaro seats. If these are original BMW, then they're a later version, probably sold in '73 or '74, and not as well known.

These seats look a lot like a set of 77-up 320 seats here in the US, without the headrests. The latching and side knobs seem a bit different, though.

Value is what someone would want to pay for them. I would think that since these don't seem to be extremely unique, there might not be such great demand for them. It would help immensely if there was a BMW brochure photo that showed these seats.

My '02 cents, anyway. Hmmm, what was the part number on the receipt? I should look it up in my parts books...
