Fender-Nose Seams

Talk to me about the gap between the fenders and the nose panel. I just Picked the car up from the body shop. They did an amazing job, but did not fill the seams between the fenders and the nose panel. It would’ve had seam sealer or lead in it from the factory, right? I think my car was previously repaired, as there were some crumbly brown stuff that they dug out from the gap. They thought it was dirt which is why they didn’t fill it again. He gave me a tube of urethane seam sealer and touchup paint in case I want to fill it. I’m literally moving from the area today, so I didn’t have an option to have them change it. Ultimately, I don’t mind the look, but I’d like to know what is technically correct.

Thanks!

Awesome!! thanks for the quick reply.  There’s nothing worse than picking up a car you’re super excited about and then seeing something you’re not sure about.

I’m really thrilled with both the shop and the price. I’ll put a formal post in case anybody in New England is looking for a quality driver job.

Looks good, what color is that ?

Polaris using BASF Diamont. We chose the formula that was right in the middle. The previous owner had given it a horrible re-spray in a much darker silver.

Did they fill the top between the grilles and the hood?  I really don't think the tube of sealant and touchup paint was the right answer to the issue but if it is indeed done right, then no worries.

Yes, it was just the lower seam. The upper is intact.

everywhere the fender touched the the body there was seam sealer, why would bmw allow water to get in-between two panels? they also sprayed the area inside the fender with a spayable undercoating, basically they glued the fender on, the portion at the corner of the fender to the hood was brazed and the leaded and filed, there is no gap, I have been restoring 2002s sense 1971

Nose brazing & soldering is exactly like this. Don't forget to paint the the hood supports & the area around the radiator to the back of the headlights black.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
