You need to check the FIA homologation documentation and the local/specific rules defined by the organizer of the races you aim to compete.

Hello, I raced two 700 coupes in RMVR (Rocky Mountain Vintage Racing) club for many years. It is very interesting setting up the car and driving at the limit is great fun. FIA homologation papers basically how the cars left the factory. FIA allowed modifications as appendix k regulations for which group the cars raced in. SCCA in the USA the 700 coupes were in the D-Sedan class. Saab 850, NSU 1000, Fiat Abarth 1000, Austin Mini 970cc, Hillman Imp, BMW 700 were the same class.

In vintage racing clubs today there are very few under 1300cc cars to race with. So you will be grouped in the under 2000cc run group and be gridded by lap time. Safety is a must. Fuel cell, quality roll cage, race seat, driver suit, Helmet, fire system per your home club rules. Then you can travel and race most clubs nationwide.

The pros and cons of the BMW 700 are: Pros- light weight (about 1150 pounds) Plastic windows OK, Strong brakes, Great handling, reliable engine, 13x6 wheels with 185 60 13 race tires.

Cons-Need more power 55 to 60hp is about max. Hi top pistons around 80/81mms, boring 2 cylinders you can't add enough ccs. You need a super hot race cam and big valve twin spark electronic ignition (Fire 4 plugs at the same time!) heads. Some kind of improved oil cooling. Rev more than 7500rpm and the rods might go.

If you have a spare rough 700 body go for it and strip every thing out and cut as much metal out of it to get the weight down. Then add a minimal roll bar/cage makes the most difference.

Regards,

Kent

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
