Just curious to see the SME perspectives on my plugs.

Rebuild head with 292 cam, Weber 38 carb, otherwise stock.

BP6ES plugs gapped to .034

brand new IE performance wires.

not sure yet what my jets are but wanted to see what I was starting with before touching the carb, it ran fairly rich and plugs were black prior to the new cam going in.

thanks !

Your spark plugs seem to be functioning correctly.

No problems there.  When they hit mid- life, you'll have to

put them on some sort of reuptake inhibitor, but that's pretty normal.

As for the MIXTURE:

Just a little lean, for a street car.

But what were you doing before you shut down?

If that's a throttle cut from full load at high rpms, smaller air correctors by 10

Full load at lower rpms, bigger main jets by the smallest increment you can find.

Cruise at speed?  next size up transition 'idle' jets

Cruise around town?  not a problem.

Idling? open the idle screws an eighth of a turn.

Thanks for of the replies.  I found it hard to distinguish between “normal” and “lean” based on the guidance I found so this gives a little more info.

I do have a AF ratio gage to be installed but want to know if I’m ok to even drive the car for a while or is it burning up.

I'd say, from this vantage that if the motor feels like it's behaving well, you're good to drive it as long as you're not doing full throttle runs under load. Maybe that's a little conservative, but.... :)

It feels pretty strong, but I am surprised at how little the car changed with the cam, the sound is very similar, drivability is very similar, however I feel like there should be a little more pull at higher rpm.

There’s not much more to discuss until I get the AF ratio and carb dialed in.  Heck, I haven’t rebuilt the carb since I acquired it so it may not be functioning optimally anyway.

If the cam's not giving you what you need-

make sure everything else can flow, too.

The stock exhaust after the downpipe is the restriction I

ran up against in a 'lapping day' car- carb and cam were nice,

but lap times went down when I increased the pipe diameter

to 2"...

...and I discovered THAT after the whole thing broke at Spokane

one day, and I ran around with just the downpipe for a few sessions.

Had I been then who I am now, I would have measured

pressures in the system before and after.
