New Video: David Love 2021- Highlights from Group 8

Our first event with the GS Tuning 2002. The sound of the M12 is amazing! The car handles pretty well despite 4 year old tires. The suspension is just a bit stiffer then I like, especially on a rough track like Sears Point. The brakes are the best I've ever driven on a 2002.

All in all I'm really pleased with the car and I look forward to many happy laps in it.

In process of watching the video (awesome - I like your musical back grounds but in this case prefer the sound of the M12!).  What happened with the Alfa and Datsun - flat tire maybe?  Or broken suspension? Its like his car just moved/veered into the Datsun.  I would guess Roger Kraus was at that event......probably could have scored some new rubber from him.

Its going to be tough for you I think to get back behind the wheel of your 8v bmw's after this.  Kind of like flying 1st class or private then flying coach.

Hopefully your spoiler wasn't too badly damaged.  Unless the PO gave you the mold for it, I would be fixin' it then making a mold off of it.  Good chance at some point you will be needing a new one.

Looks like an awesome car.

The driver of the Alpha exceeded his level of skill. Nothing broke on the car. In fact, he drove it back to the pits after wiping out the 2 Z cars. It almost looks to me like he 'caught' a rear in a crack in the pavement and it upset the car. You are on the limit in Turn 1 anyway, so anything that upsets the car isn't going to end well.

The car uses a Euro only size tire that Roger does not keep in stock. We ordered 2 sets as soon as the car popped out of the container but the tires had to come from over the pond. We'll have new tires for Laguna in a few weeks.

Spoiler isn't bad. Jim will have it fixed next week. Yes, we had already planned to pull a mold just in case. It has only a couple of inches clearance to the pavement so it will eventually hit something and get broken.

The car is heavily muffled due to stricter sound rules in Europe. Jim already has plans for a straight pipe. Should be awesome to hear it then.

It is really gratifying to see an old 02 pass a porche. Where can I get me one of these M12 motors? Ha.

Interesting how that car just 'shimmied' over.  Congrats on a great first outing and coming out of it relatively unscathed.  Curious how much quicker your laps were than your 8v cars?

The laps I turned were pretty close to my Koepchen 02 but given the old tires and the difference in the amount of seat time I have in the 2 cars, I'm not sure that means much.

Give me some new tires and a few more sessions in this car and then we'll know better.

Steve, do you know how many hours were on the motor prior to your purchase?  Hard for me to tell for sure, sounded like you were hovering up around 9000rpm (more than once).  Guessing that this car and Luigi would be in the same run group at Monterey.....you'll either need to clone yourself or pick.....which one?  Tough sledding racing in that class with all the Porsche's (934's, 935's, RSR's etc.,), but then you have experienced that already more than once.

Seller claimed dyno time plus one weekend at Spa. I don’t think this M12 is built to the Max. It starts, idles, and runs too well to be a fully tweaked M12. I’m guessing it’s built to a enduro spec. I did run it up to 9k a couple of times just to see. Most of the weekend I was shifting at 8500. That seemed plenty. ?

Probably a good thing I think. I believe that Spa race is where they crashed it.  Probably fixed it - which appeared to be a fair amount of fixin, then put it up for sale.

Years ago I was talking to Dave Vegher about my motor and other, I had a Motorsport M12/7 catalogue I was sending him.  He said the highly tuned M12's that were driven to max capacity, you were going to be in there every 15-20 hours to check things out and 'freshen' things up.  One his engines (an M12) grenaded at 9600 RPM on my engine guys dyno.  There was virtually nothing left of the engine, disintegrated.....shrapnel, oil and a f&cked up dyno.  Apparently a rod bolt didn't get torqued correctly.

The good news is that parts are available for those motors now - albeit expensive.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
