Not my Dashboard idea. I'm blaming Dave Layton. YES or NO?

Recommended Posts

About a week ago most members agreed the Fasten Seat Belt Lite can be omitted.........  OK.

In a Dave Layton comment he said his resto was deleting the instrument labels too.  ie LIGHTS, HEATER ,FAN, WIPER SPEED......

Without the Fasten Seat Belt Light, WHY NOT?  What do you think?

only thing is, I'll have to find some proper picture knobs.

The white-lettered control labels, just like the seat belt warning light, were a U.S. DOT requirement. Euro-spec cars, which represent the lion’s share of ‘02’s, did not get them.

BMW stopped making U.S.-only replacement dashboards four decades ago. The more generic, unlettered, Euro-style dashboards, however, were probably produced until the early 2000’s. So lots of cars, Euro and U.S., got the Euro-spec dashes as dashes were replaced. These same Euro-spec dashboards also lacked cutouts for seat belt warning lights,

Someone buying an ‘02 with an unlettered dashboard could always add them.

Regards,

Steve

I like it as I did just that. It was a replacement dash like Steve mentioned.  No picto’s, no letters, nobody else drives my car. I even put wood over the silver part of the knob so it matches my dash bezel. Looks so clean. If you need pics I can add some after work.

Mac,

I bought a set of Picto-knobs from a German member of our tribe.  I went as far as to check out if the Euro cars used arrows in '73 for the vent controls, like the 68 I had in college.  No, by then it was text.  So, I am going for a clean, non-Federal look.    Hoping that Vintage Dashes will be selling 2- piece dashes in the next couple of months.

Thanks for the  pic.  Much cleaner without the Federally mandated "instructions".

My dash will be re-installed without the Fasten Seat Belt Lite nor the with switch instructions(symbols only on the knobs.)

Thanks all for your input(s).

Mac.
