start with 4x4.

Spend lots of time/money welding on a 2002 body.

Easy :)

Jokes aside, In a previous life I had a Bugeye Subaru WRX wagon that was turned up to 11, and by far the most fun/easy to drive at it's limit car I've ever owned, and easy to work on to-boot. Subarus are Legos.

Aftermarket parts are readily available, and I dunno about now, but noobs were crashing STI's left and right back in the day, so wrecked parts cars/parts were plentiful.

Always thought it would be fun, and relatively easy (with a heavy sprinkling of skill, money, and time-all of which I lack) to graft one to the other and have a beast of an 02.

I now disagree with some of the timing advice I have given in the past.  I misinterpreted the distributor curves in the Blue Book.

I've switched from using ported-vacuum to manifold, with better results.

I apologize for spreading misinformation.

That is the only photo I saved.  There were a few more online, but I couldn't find them.  Maybe fotobucket ate them.

My 84 Subaru had 73 hp 260k miles ago.  I'll keep the m10 in the 2002.  I do have a 2002 exhaust in the EA81 from the Y pipe back and some Subaru wing nuts on my air cleaner; but that's the extent of my mixed up parts.

In case you know anyone, I've got a '14 STI with 35k miles that needs a new home.  Could come with Ohlins suspension...

Hey Nick,

Chris at Sin City BMW that built this, bought my old E30ix for the project. Just saw this car when I visited him a month ago. Gave him another light bar for the roof.

He has also built a 2002 with a 911 fast back roof. It actually looks pretty cool.I'll se if I can find a pic.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
