Description:

It’s time to let my 1971 1600 Cab go.  I have too many projects on the back burner and it’s time to get them done.   I have a BMW Z1, BMW 600, 3.0CS, 73’ 2002, GT40 replica, 1962 VW double cab, 1966 911 and a few others that all need a little push to the finish line.  Selling this car will help fund this.  Many of them are at the 90+% point.   We have a saying at my shop,”Why finish one project when you can start another”.  Could not be more true for me.  This car was restored back in the early 90’s at La Jolla Independent BMW and as you can see still looks amazing.  It’s not a concourse car, but it’s what I would call a clean driver.   It has a factory BMW crate 2.0L and 5 speed Getrag (around 50k on both), weber 32/36, bilsteins, Campy wheels, etc.   It drives perfectly.  Starts after sitting for months with no problem.  We take it out on date nights, cars and coffee, BMW CCA drives etc.  It always gets thumbs up and complements.   It’s the one car that never needs anything!

I saw this car at Cars and Coffee in Point Loma last Saturday. As soon as I arrived I went straight for it. It is really quite something. The paint is outstanding (after 20 plus years!) and the upgrades (5 speed and 2 liter) make it modern. I was lucky enough to speak to the owner and he told me it drives better than it looks. And he's a car guy up to his neck in projects and enjoying every minute of it. Compared to the BAT car the was bid to $68k, this car would be my choice hands down.

Well...we have an unfortunate price reduction...the car has been crashed.    Some a-hole crossed three lanes to get off the freeway and took out the cars in front of me and I had no place to go.  1st accident of my life (even after 10+ years of racing)  Very fixable...but needs a new nose, bumper, hood, fenders, radiator, grilles, headlights, bumper etc.   It will now be a salvage title.   I don't have the bandwidth to repair it.  I am about to start a full restoration my other 2002.

Thanks,

Sean

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
