Quick motor mount question

I believe it should be a 90 degree bend.  Does the rubber mount fit inside the retaining cup and the mount stud align with the mounting ear on the subframe?  If so, you're OK...if not, you may have to do a little tweaking.

I believe it should be 90 degrees also. To adjust it get a big adjustable wrench and tighten it down on the bracket and use it to bend it until the mount fits and is not torqued/twisted at all.

Also most people recommend using the newer rectangular bushing mount.

Mike and and 2002ii, thanks for the quick replies.  It just didn't look right, so I appreciate the confirmation.

Concerning the mount, that's the rubber version IE sells.  The diameter of that mount is greater than the original that I took off the car.  It won't fit in the cup, so I assume it's meant to be run without it.  If there's a known problem with that particular mount from IE, let me know.  I'd rather NOT take the chance of it crapping out and bricking my brand new radiator!

Thanks,

Travis

attached is a pic of my driver side motor mount bracket.  I’m not sure if the bend shown should be a 90 degree’r, or the slightly acute bend is normal.    Anybody have Any idea?

Agreed.  I painted it yesterday, and its still hanging in the paint booth.  I may go grab it later today, and I'll take a look.

Thanks!

Quick answer-

no.

That bracket's supposed to put the mount perpendicular to the block.

Another data point- I have had those break, as they were folded into a very

tight radius at the factory, probably when they weren't hot enough.

When they fail, it's easy to see the cracking that's propagated from the end of the fold.

ANOTHER datum: those circular mounts historically fail.

We usually use the rectangular version with the metal 'limiter' embedded into it.

and a final:  IE's cylindrical 'polyurethane' version was particularly prone to failure.  I dunno if

the black one you have from them is rubber or PU, but as they say,

Cravat Emptor.*

t

has had the engine come loose in there lotsa times.
