Yep, mostly! But not always. And since some differentials have had their innards swapped, the only foolproof way to know precisely what you have is to count the teeth on the ring and pinion. Short-necks, however, like these two, date from early 1969 onward. They replaced the long-neck version shown by @Richenfamous, which were phased out of new ‘02’s in January and February 1969. And a short-neck differential with “four-bolt” side covers dates from 1969 through 1978.

 

Separate and apart from the differential housing — but also readily swapped — the rear differential covers dependably have casting dates, viewable only when the cover is removed, although the multiple ribs at the bottom of your right differential’s rear cover generally announce a “square taillight era” rear cover.
