I’ve been here before. I had to put a 2. After my Name....

anyway my 1975 Bmw 2002 has been parked for 5 years. Because the mechanics I’ve been taking it to, just didn’t do anything they were supposed to.....I’m starting from scratch. My neighbor is teaching me.

question 1. Can your fan blade just randomly break?  He says yes. I think the previous guys hit it with a hammer.....

question 2. Can that tube that goes from the radiator to the water bottle snap perfectly as if it were cut.?

either I learn how to take care of my bluebird or I let her go.

thoughts?

Stuff snaps, maybe it froze too many times.  Like to see some pictures, and yes you do need to learn how to take care of your bluebird, unless you have disposable income. Just kidding, like to see another 75.  Where are you located?

I'd say possibly to both. The plastic the fan is made of is rather brittle and I have a radiator where the overflow nipple came unbrazed from the cap neck.

Most mechanic's nowadays don't know how to work on a carburetor or anything without a computer and OBDII.

working on a 2002 isn't hard, it just takes some know how and the right tools.

Replacing the fan isn't too hard and requires removing the radiator. So once you get the radiator out take it to a radiator shop they should be able to fix it for you. Then you can replace the fan and do your tune up.

     DISCLAIMER

I now disagree with some of the timing advice I have given in the past.  I misinterpreted the distributor curves in the Blue Book.

I've switched from using ported-vacuum to manifold, with better results.

I apologize for spreading misinformation.

Is the fan really broken? They are an asymetric design, it's like a 7 blade fan with 2 blades missing....thats how it's meant to be.

On an 02 there is no rad overflow bottle, the pipe from the rad cap runs down the side of the rad and dumps water on the floor.

The asymmetric 5 blade fans do break--and it isn't that uncommon.  I had one shed parts of 4 blades--amazingly it didn't cause an imbalance, as it occurred on an 800 mile road trip, and I didn't notice it until arrived home and noticed the fan.

Turned into a wall clock, it became the hard luck trophy for a Mid America fest several years ago.  Its nickname was...Stumpy.

The small four blade fans seem to be much more robust.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
