Hello,

My name is Gary Beck and I live in Peachtree Corners, GA.

I've been a member here since 4/2014 but never posted or participated.

I just purchased a 1972 Golf Tii. VIN 2761023.

PO Steve S. Georgia

PPO- irdave, Colorado

I have a few other BMW's as well.

1972 3.0 CS- just finished a 5 year rotisserie restoration.

1988 E28 M5- One of 30 Black on Black.

2001 E46 M3- Laguna Seca Blue. My daily driver.

Outlaw car but in the family. 87 911 Carrera Targa.

Currently the Tii is in my garage with the rear subframe removed. The diff has a broken tooth off of the pinion gear.

Looking for a diff and will rebuild the subframe with all new bushings, hardware and powder coating.

Plan is to keep the car with original patina and just make mechanically sound.

Many friends on here with 2002's.

And a new diff

All the mechanicals will be redone by me.

You have done many and I see your good work.

Thanks for taking care of her. BTW her name is Rona.  Corona Rona. Never forget.

I recently helped Tom in Norcross do an Inka Tii subframes, both front and rear.

She had been sitting outside in a guy's mom's backyard in Denver for 25 years before we liberated her.  He had wonderful intentions, but life got in the way.  I'm sure she loves breathing at sea level.  :)

I was born in Colorado and still have a bunch of cousins out there. Mostly in Grand Junction and Montrose.

Drove my 3.0 CS out there in 2014 to Ofest in Beaver Creek. 4000 miles round trip from Atlanta.

It's going to be fun. Just taking my time.

I'm a senior and retired and have a garage with lift and climate control to work on cars.

Probably have some questions for you?

Yay!  It's a great little car.

Definitely needed subframe bushings.

I'm sure Gary would love to hear from the PO.

Gary just helped me with my front and rear sub-frames and I helped him get his to the floor.  He's going to have a lot of fun with this!

Rick, thanks but another E9 quality build is not in my future.

This car has such great patina and a Tii that I'm just going to get the mechanicals sorted and dependable and leave the body alone.

Cracked dash may get fixed as that drives me crazy.

Keeping the 4 speed and all the stock stuff.

Installing AC so I can drive it it Hotlanta.

Maybe my grand kids can do the body some day with their dad.

The E9 just about did me in.

2002's are not as complicated.

I do all my own work so will be enjoyable project.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
