FS: Tii Cylinder Block

Brandon

Recommended Posts

Price: $200
Location: MA

Description:

Tii M10 cylinder block from early ‘72 Tii with appropriate VIN in good condition.  This was pulled from a running engine and has been in storage for around ten years.  There is some light surface rust on the bores from humidity so they will need to be honed.  Block is also dirty inside and out (from normal use...oil, grime, etc) and should be cleaned.  Comes with main bearing caps.  $200 +s/h.

For $200, that should be a no brainer for someone looking for a 1972 tii block.

Jeremy,

Can you please provide photos of the VIN and casting date, so I can put this in the Registry? Below, I see “72” as the casting year, but the month and day, in the oval frame, are unclear.

Thanks, regards, and GLWS,

Steve

Vin on the block is 2760811 and the casting date is ‘72.  Sorry for the poor pictures but the block is upside down on the stand currently with the crank just sitting in it!

Thanks!

VIN 2760811 is, indeed, an early car, manufactured January 21, 1972. The block, of course, was cast January 6, 1972 (“6A” within the oval frame and “72” nearby). So, yes, a very early U.S. tii: production really didn’t get going until late October 1971. This was the 811th U.S. tii.

I’ll put the engine in the Registry, where the chassis — probably gone — is already listed.

Best regards and GLWS,

Steve

Hmm, I wonder when the engine was separated from the car. And whatever happened to the rest of the car, it was rather rusty.

That’s interesting.  The engine was actually in a ‘74 Tii parts car that I had.  I attached a better picture of the vin.  I’m laughing because that eBay ad says matching numbers and I have it’s engine sitting in my garage!

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,
