Can you identify these seats?

Recommended Posts

Just bought a ‘72. Trying to decide what to do about the seats. Could recover these or go stock. Seller said Flofit. Cannot find any Flofit picture that matches. Seller did not install, so I think he got verbal info as well.

These are not well upholstered, but they are quite comfortable. They actually fit me better than the Recaros in my Fjord.

The top lever controls recline and rear access. Push to disengage and tilt forward and back freely. Pull to re-engage locked position at last used setting.

Lower control rotates to (very slowly) adjust recline. Fore-aft sliding is done with short lever under front left on both passenger and driver.

Thigh bolsters do extend, too.

Oh, any thought on rubber or plastic covers for levers/handles if I keep?

Car is pretty original otherwise.  Weber 45DCOE (Italian make) is only other major mod, besides two switches I’ll get back to stock.

Thanks for any help on this!

I think they are e30 Sport seats.

I’ll hook you up with a good upholstery shop up near me. He’s worked on lots of vintage BMWs the last couple years. Great work and reasonable prices.

Nope and thanks.

Levers and odd recline mechanism are different.

Yeah, Greg sent me some pics. Looks like he does good work.

I tried to google old Audi/VW seats, but came up with nothing.  You may want to take a closeup of the knob and recliner mechanism and do an image search on Google.   I am a Data Scientist by trade and working on some image recognition stuff.  it is pretty accurate, it may lead you in a direction your didn't think of.

That's a great idea. The company I work for is dabbling in that a bit (using Google's tech). It has application for our industry (real estate). I'll report back and also post a close-up of said knob/handle/spindle or whatever it is supposed to be called.

  • 2 years later...

Bump. Yes, two years later. Still don’t know. Yes, car still sitting in the garage. Refuse to drive it if I don’t know the brand of seats!

Seriously, just thought I might get some new eyes that may know. I’ve done a LOT of Googling. What’s killing me is I feel like I saw it on a car once upon a time. I asked a friend who had a Fox body Mustang. Nope.

PO said they were Flofit (which is why I looked at Mustangs), but can’t find anything like this. Fiat? Nope. French? that would seem to fit the weird horizontal recline adjustment. Not that I can find.

Hmm…Not the end of the world if I don’t figure it out. But, would like to cover the bare metal. Any ideas on that?

Thanks,

Joey

@AustinOski,

Have you pulled the seats and looked underneath? Gotta be some identifiable set of numbers somewhere.

Flofit seats I’ve seen with that style headrest have an adjustment knob. Can’t tell if yours have that knob or not.

Definitely not e30 seats.

I lean toward VW (water cooled age) seats but have not been successful in the Googlin’ - yet.
Now I’ll be up until 4am if I don't find  them ?.

Yeah, funny, I woke up at 2am after posting this thinking, why the hell haven’t just pulled them and checked for branding.

No, no knob on headrests and not the same recline mechanism.
