The engine number (VIN) — not shown — will reveal whether this is a ti engine.

The ti's have VIN’s from the 168xxxx and 169xxxx series and all were manufactured from September 1968 through April 1971. The casting date on the block is sadly cut off in the photo. It would reveal whether the engine was cast during the “ti era”. All I can see is October 22, 197? (“22K 7?” within the oval frame). If the unseen number (i.e., the question mark) is a “0”, the engine was cast within the “ti era”. Otherwise, forget it!

I called the seller - he said another person had called and they verified that the engine # belonged to a 71 2002. He thought it was a ti motor because it did have PHHs on it and it says "121ti" on the head.

 

And there go my dreams of installing a real ti engine in my car...
