I'm wondering if anyone knows anything about this car, or has opinions they can offer? It's been for sale forever. It seems suspect, and the over-spray make me wonder if there's some poorly done body work beneath that paint job. Many thanks!

VIN 2760260 is an early 1972 model U.S.-spec tii, probably manufactured around December 22, 1971 (VIN 2760236 was manufactured December 21 and VIN 2760293 was manufactured December 23, 1971).

Why not email the VIN to BMW Group Archives, and request their data on the car? No cost; one or two business days. Their email address is:

info.grouparchiv@bmwgroup.com

The most important thing it might confirm for this car is whether it’s a factory Verona car, or has been color-changed.

It’s odd: I’ve not even bothered to examine the car in the listing photos — despite what appears to be a very reasonable price for a very complete ‘72 tii. Why? I’m not certain, but the brand-spanking-new paint job strikes me as a... “resale paint job.” I could be absolutely wrong! But the whole presentation just looks.... like a quickie dealer “restoration”: lots of Armorall.

There is, however, enough here — like seats, no snorkel, good dash — to suggest that if anything ails this car, it’s fixable.

Has no one looked at this car?

Regards,

Steve

I concur that the car looks like it has enough of the important bits and does not appear to be a rust-repaired example. Would need to crawl around it to really validate - would not buy sight unseen! Paint is too fresh and "thick" looking to do that.

The ad feels like it was written by a non-car person. "Race-look" wheels? Seriously? ?

First thing to change - the steering wheel cover. I can't unsee that, unfortunately!

But if I was looking I would not wipe it out based on what I see unless the 33k is not in your price range.

Wait... is that really the steering wheel rim? ? I honestly thought it was simply “protection” placed on the rim, like the carpet protectors on the floor...

Where would you even buy something so absof**king ugly? John — accustomed to the creme de la creme of steering wheels —  is going to need therapy after seeing it... ??

I refuse to go back and look! $33K without the wheel; $13K with the wheel!

Best regards,

Steve

If you drive this car home, wear gloves and a mask: I’m confident that steering wheel is a Covid-19 hot spot. Once home, remove it and burn it to avoid infecting others... ?

Carry on... ?

Best regards,

Steve

Collector Grade, I don't think so, Right side of hood where it meets door is all buggered up, Left side to lesser extent. No way to claim the mileage is correct without paper trail. I would not buy unless I personally took a long hard look at it

Hey!  Don't knock the wheels.  I think they are awesome.  Not just because I have the same ones, albiet polished rims ?.

"I can't unsee that"...made me laugh.  It's true.  Who in their right mind would think that that wrap was acceptable.  Fugly, indeed.

I would definitely check the body.  It seems to me that Colorado would see snow in most regions and salt would be common on the roads in winter.  Any Coloradans verify this statement?

I like the wheels! Was just interesting that they would be described as "race look". What does "race look" mean anyway. ?

Funny that the steering wheel may be actually pretty nice. Looks like a Momo? Can't read the writing on the center spoke, but could it be Alpina? The wrapper is hilarious!

Regarding snow and salt, the other melting agents, and sand in CO, it depends...  On where your are in CO.  I can't speak much for the mountains where most of the snow falls and most of the snow removal happens.  Down here on the flat part east of the Rockies, it still depends.   Most of the snow is light and fluffy, and goes away on it's own due to the altitude and bright sun after small storms. Lots of times only the major roads get any attention for that reason.  Some localities use only sand, some use sand, mag chloride, salt, etc.

Since it's a few inches of rain away from a desert climate on the plains, low moisture = low corrosion.  Compared to the northeast, rust is much rarer on vehicles.

The vehicle in question seems to have gone away, at least at the link above when I looked for it
