Alternator Mounting Bushings

I have an early alternator with solid mount points, i.e., a hole drilled through the casing. The main mounting hole has gone oblong, so I may need to replace the front cover or try to get it drilled and bushed. I just had it rebuilt, so I hate to get a new one. I have some spare alternators of unknown provenance, but they have the removable bushing holes - but no bushings. I don't see those on RealOEM. Were they ever an 02 item?

AFAIK all 2002s had alternators with rubber mounting bushings at both the upper and lower holes; I suspect yours wore away (or turned to black goo) many years ago and the steel sleeves remaining from the rubber bushings have nibbled away at the aluminum alternator housing until the holes have been ovalized.

Suggest buying a set of urethane bushings from one of the suppliers (Blunt, Maxmillian, etc).  They're a tight fit on an unworn housing, so they should fit your worn ones easily.  And the urethane bushings are quite rigid, so should fill the worn hole and center things well enough so that your alternator is parallel with the other pulleys and the belt will run true.

The other plus about the urethane bushings is that they last infinitely longer than the OEM rubber ones.  The set on my '73 have been there since sometime in the late 80s and are still just fine.

Well, to be honest, this is from my NK CS, and there are no bushings. Just a 1/4" or so hole. When I look at RealOEM for NK and 02, I see no removable bushings hence my question. I have what I think are urethane alt.  bushings, but the bolt hole is much bigger and would be too big for the mounting bracket. Were there two different brackets that attach to the block/head?
