First year tii differences

Hi looking for some differences between the first year car besides the black plastic intake manifolds?  My car seems to have smaller disc brakes on the front.  Someone told me the first year had smaller front brakes?  Any other input would be appreciated.

Lol- I see there is NO stud protruding from the back of the cover just below the KF pump mount.  My 73 cover has a stud there- supposedly to hold the alternator for the e12 520i models.

BTW- the black plastic timing covers from my 72 and 73 tii are stamped 1969.

The 2000tii (4-door sedan) was introduced in 1969 and I suspect that fact plays some role in the date stamp.

Best regards,

There has been some conjecture that very early tii's had larger valves (46mm/38mm) in the 121 head, 300° cam, and higher compression (10:1 ???) pistons - maybe only on Euro models? These are all guesses, but I've read and heard of them more than once.

And, there's the no cowl notch thing...

Throttle body used a different cam and adjustment screw system...

First we need to understand whether you are referring to Euro-spec or U.S.-spec tii’s. The differences are, to some extent... different.

There are also possible differences regarding compression ratios, differential ratios, heater fan controls (not a tii-specific issue), side grilles (also not a tii-specific issue and only a U.S. issue), front bumper guards (again, not a tii-specific issue and only a U.S. issue), etc.

What is your car’s VIN? Have you requested data from BMW Group Archives regarding its origins: a simple email with the VIN to info.grouparchiv@bmwgroup.com?

Regards,

Steve
