Seat ID / '75 potential purchase

I am looking at a '75 2002 as a potential purchase, and it has some front seats I'm having a tough time placing. Any idea what they're out of (pics below)? Rears look more what I am used to. I threw up some other pics of the car as well. Has had some floor pan / rocker work, but looks pretty solid now. Poor respray in Granatrot (original color), and earlier gauges / steering wheel. Thoughts?

Thanks!

....first recommendation is to make sure your mechanic knows where the proper jack points are on the car. The rear should under the rear sub bushings or on the slot designed for the jack stand, the same for the front or on the meaty portion of the sub frame provided its healthy or the front crossmember.

The front seat look stock although reupholstered at some point but I will defer to those much more knowledgeable.

How much is the asking price for this.....personally over spray is a big tell for me.....the stamp of the floor pans do not look familiar either.  How are the towers?

Price would be a big factor on this one as well.

LOL...OK. Seems like I'm looking at the wrong time for a 2002, really hot market out here now. Seeing what should be $5k or less cars selling (or at least asking) for more than 2x that price recently.

If you pass on the car will you let the seller know that I have a very nice correct stock steering wheel and the correct fully functioning instrument cluster that I’m happy to trade or sell outright to him/her or you. I’m in Dallas.

If the pans and frame rails are all the rust in the car (doubtful) it would be workable maybe it looks like the running gear other than the bilsteins looks untouched nd would need attention soon but mechanicals can be budgeted much better than body work. The floor pan welds look somewhat sketch and at a minimum would need a good coat of seam seal to be sure they are waterproof . Maybe 5k tops.

do not give up, remain vigilant.....keep looking. The more info and examples of both good and not so good the better you will feel when the right pops up. And it will. There are more than a few on this site who have landed solid cars. You will too.

That's what I'm doing, keeping up with daily searches to hopefully find that solid example out there. I'll keep posting my finds, like the input of the experts here.

I like it better than the last one but not much. The overspray all over the coil is just, mind boggling to me. Worst flipper paint job evah! probably wont last a year.

No rain deflectors and is that some kind of vinyl covering over what is no doubt a trashed dash? That doesn't  look right.

Not a dime over 5K. Seems like we are a tough crowd here at the Faq.

You are in a tough position not being able to see and drive these offerings. Hard to really know... ya know??

Agreed.

The front seats appear to be 1975-76 style seats, just re-covered in a creative fashion. The backseat, at first glance, looks like a 1974 seat, but it’s really a 1975-76 rear seat (two sets of eight pleats) with a patch panel applied across the top, where the pleated vinyl had probably dried and cracked.

Regards,

Steve

Those last two years for '02s (at least in the US) utilized essentially the same seats as installed in the non is E21's--BMW rationalized production so they didn't have to order two different seats.

The E21s were introduced in Europe for 1975, two years before they came to the US, and 2002 production was ended for every market but the US (and Canada); the factory produced the 1502 ("stripper model") until 1977 to be priced below the least expensive E21.

This ones an automatic so not most folks cup of tea but I still like it!

Mint grun is such a cool color.

Nice Recaros, not terrible paint job, unmolested.

Judging by its appearance and the sellers description and pics, I'm guessing its owned by proud enthusiasts, not a flipper.  Hope it goes to a good home.  I cant, I just cant?

Can I? ?
