Speedo cable - need to plug transmission hole when going GPS

Is the speedometer drive cable hole in the transmission an exit port for fluid if there's no speedometer cable, and thus needs to be plugged/capped if one isn't using a speedometer cable due to GPS conversion?  Sorry for this beginner question...

No need to plug or cap from a leakage perspective.  If you have an old casing, cut of a short piece and try crimping the cut end.  Insert the casing piece and lock in place with the special bolt to keep the dirt out.

A radiator shop is a good place to take a leak.

I have no idea what I'm doing but I know I'm really good at it.

The cable is not sealed and if the hole needs sealing then the speedo cable would be filled with oil.

Of course if left open it will leak like a sieve.   Take the speedodrive gear and bushing out.  You can sell them for about 70-80 bucks

Then as suggested plug it with a frost plug, make sure that you get the frost plug up past the slotted hole in the trans housing

A frost plug is steel, The casing is aluminum, which do you think will deform?  Is there a shoulder for the plug to seat against?  Bad idea.

Besides, Cal is not intending to remove the drive.

Yeah, I was just planning on eliminating the cable, not anything inside the transmission- always could revert back that way.  I hadn't even considered removing the drive out of ignorance.  Thanks for the education, all !

Be sure to install the lock bolt.  It holds the drive gear as well as the cable.  Don't leave home without it :D
