Ha- adding 5mm to a 2002 cam puts you solidly into the racecar category.  As in, it's not gonna idle...

 

The BMW numbers are misleading, as they're specified at 1 mm of lift.  The equivalent US measurement of our stock cam is something

like 220 at .050"  Likewise, no total lift is specified.  I forget exact numbers, but the stock 264 might have 10mm of lift at the

valve, and the 292 has 12 if you're lucky... but it might be less.  Getting to 14mm of lift is in the '336' territory.  

BMW's stock cam wasn't feeble, but 'upgrades' to it are pretty gentle.

 

If you're planning on regrinding, I do suggest Delta Camshafts, in Tacoma, WA- call them on the phone, 

tell them about your car, and be prepared to convince them that you want 'quite a bit more than stock'.

DON'T talk BMW numbers, because they talk US numbers, but DO ask what 'performance'

grinds they have for the M10, as I know for sure they have a 292 equivalent, and several others.  

Then send them a core, and a check for less than $100, and get a good grind back in less than a week.

IF it's not good, they'll make it right, with no hassle.
