2000 ti suspension

Recommended Posts

Very cool info then about the 2 and 4 dr cars using the same subframes. I will defer to you fellows as it has been quite a while since playing with an old 4 dr and its good to learn new things. Lots of things changed in those cars around 68 as they began the transition to the 6cyl cars and for me the side loader diff was the best thing they did. I appreciate the correction.

So I believe the hubs and rotors I used were 530 vented and you have a choice of calipers. I think the 6 series were single circuit and 5,7 series were twin circuit. It's been a long time though...

Hey Tom...thanks very much for the fine pics of my old TI, I haven't seen those before and appreciate the ride through memory lane. I didn't even remember that I had taken an old heater core and mounted it as an additional radiator just trying to keep the flow through the back of the head. Later I mounted a Pinto radiator and added an additional water inlet at the top tank to accept the water from the rear of the head, much cleaner look and still effective. I still use that concept in my 02. I think the timing there was around 88' after meeting John Saiu who ran Conversion Techniques and painted the car. He gave me a lot of support back then and contributed greatly to it's success... I really miss that car.

On another note, you had asked me a while back about photo's that my brother had of your TISA as campaigned by Heinz back in the day. I thought I located a few and I'll have to go through all of his loose photo's again as I did not set them aside at the time. When I find them you may have the originals.

Darrel, that would be AMAZING! I don’t know your relationship with tour brother, but hope all is well with you and your family.

This is an interesting discussion and I’m intrigued by the CS rear suspension swap. My initial inquiry was essentially to determine if shortened & stiffer 2002 springs and B’stein HD shocks from same we’re compatible. From MOJOJOY’s comment I’m assuming I can use the complete 02 strut & top bearing. If using tii struts I’d then gain larger wheel bearings and rotors as well as easily available strut bearings. I’ll have the car in ten days or so and can assess its needs....or possibly my wants.

Thanks for this input.

Jim

i converted the struts so i use e30 koni's in them. Cut away the springspads and welded 02 springpads on. the nk struts have same bearings as 02tii.

Which "same" bearings are you referring to, wheel bearings or strut top?

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
