USB Port instead of the Green non-Button?

@David, love your gauges, very retro.

I needed the AFR gauge from AEM, so went that route.

I have found that car chargers don't fit well in the lighter as they are too narrow.  I installed the blue led version in my Behr 2002 console and made a bracket to hold the same in my e9 glovebox, both switched power.

Could you tell me how you wired this? I will be making a faceplate and want to add this to it but I don’t want it on at all times. Thanks!

A photo of my (unfinished uninstalled) console. I installed one of the dual 2.1A USB units with digital voltmeter built in.

In testing it, I found that:

A. It provided a solid 2A at 5.05 volts at either USB outlet

B. The voltmeter on one of my two samples was accurate.  The other read over 1 volt lower than actual.  If you get one, check it against a real meter...

In installing it, I replaces the tiny tubular fuse (nonstandard in my experience) that was included with an auto type blade fuse in an individual holder. both the fuseholder and fuse looked like Cr&p quality to me.

What to connect it to?

IIRC, from the ignition key switch, the "R" contact will be hot when the key is in the O or FAHRT position, the "15" contact will be hot when the key is in FAHRT or START position.  DO fuse your USB gismo!

FWIW, the black and red things to the right of the USB outlet are a fused 12V outlet, called Anderson Powerpole.  The connector will handle 30A, but I've got it fused for 10A.  That style of connector is used in many other applications and is much more reliable that the good old cigar lighter socket.  It can be used with 15A contacts in the same plastic housings, and also available in much larger capacities in larger housings.

I used a switched power lead, you can use the radio wire but it is best to use a separate one.  The fuses for accessories has unused spades on the back of the fuse block as well.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
