Center Console Reassembly

4dayer91

Recommended Posts

I received my new center console panels, tray, and surround for the shifter. Only problem, no directions, no pre-drilled holes, nothing. Can someone help me reassemble the center console, the side panels, center tray, ashtray surround? Pictures would be great!

Thank you!

This may help.  Assemble and attach the ash tray panel first, then set in position on the tunnel to fit/install the fwd mount  bracket. the shift surround part interfaces with this bracket. Play with it a bit,  the rear winged piece deflects air from your heater box dont drill there until you have fitted that piece so it clears the heater box registers.

Measure/fit twice, drill once!?

I'd have expected pre-drilled holes also but if there aren't... Houw.

Be very very careful with drilling. If there's foam between the inner wood and the black cover like it is from factory, the foam easily wraps itself around the drill bit and forms a big bubble that cannot be removed.

I did this job about 4 years ago. Panels don't come with pre-drilled holes. What you need to do is first to set two side panels and bottom in place and adjust right to left side panels till is centered and / or forward and back. from that point you do what @esty described in her post.

Be mindful that entire console is secured to bottom of dashboard and rear of shifter after console assembly is complete (last picture).

I was going to used one of the screws to attach the ashtray surround. But what of the other two? One does not even sit flush w/ the panel and surround.

metal part butts against side panels, but bezel won't. that's how it should be. Remember, astray facia does not sit flush with edge of side panels.

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,
