Ludwig's part way there--finally got my 3.64 LSD installed after six years decorating the garage floor.  Left to do:  swap out my leaking steering box for a much lower mileage spare that (I hope, but will test first) doesn't.  Then new rear brake shoes and drums (courtesy of successive Mid-America door prizes!).  Once done, attend Mid America and Vintage (planning caravans to both; stay tuned for details).

Wolfgang--will be freed from his museum display in a few weeks, then get the front end aligned before replacing a front tire that wore almost bald on one edge after 5-6 k miles.  Once done, off to enjoy driving him in nice, warm weather, and tinker with little stuff-there always are little things to do with a near 51 year old car.

Happy New Year/Feliz Ano Nuevo, y'all

Reacquaint myself with welding,

Tackle small rust jobs,

Work on My ITB project keeping the kuglefischer, without putting a dirty big hole in a piston?

Recover my super comfy Recaros.

Finally decide to relocate my battery to the trunk (or not) and how to do it (no I don’t want it under the seat)? I’ve just seen Nick B’s TEP held in with stainless cable ties, would save drilling the shock towers?

Paint my dreadful fake wood dash, the Aussie sun bleachs Everything!!

But mostly drive this great little car as much as I can.

Completing the full cosmetic restoration of my '74 tii after getting badly rear-ended last March. After that, attending as many events as possible with it and taking care of smaller things, such as:

1. repainting the rims

2. replacing the steering wheel

3. finding some Recaros

4. detailing the engine bay

5. ???

Suspension, brakes, and a 123 for Otto to make a hot lap (or ten) around Thunder Hill. Would love to be able to do the Targa Baja.
Continue tear down on Heinrich to assess 2021’s goals.

Loose: Not tightly bound. Subject to motion.
Lose: What happens when you are spell check dependent.

1975 Malaga. It is rusty but runs. Just like me.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
