Strut reassembly

I am a bit perplexed. According to the diagram, my struts were missing a washer and did not have the concave/convex washer as per this diagram. I only had what is in the picture below. Can anyone tell me a part number for #1, #2, and #4 (if different than #2). I looked on realoem and could not find the concave one or the one below the spacer ). Help is much appreciated. I want to get it right. Thank you all.

It looks like you have 2 and 4 in your photo - 2 is the bigger washer and 4 is the smaller one. The sleeve is 3 and goes in between. If your new bearings aren't sealed on the bottom (some made by Ina already are) then you'll need to get the #1 cup washer. My new Meyle bearings needed them so I got them from pelican parts for $6 a piece.

Perhaps worth noting:

 

1. If the center of the spring hat is deformed/collapsed, it can cause the strut bearing to bind (even if hardware is correct).

 

2. I've seen lousy manufacturing tolerances of aftermarket strut bearings (which I stopped using after a wicked failure); and as such, you may need an additional "#2 large diameter washer" - or similar shim - for the bearing to function properly. -KB

Looks like it to me. I also remember that when I placed these on the strut, the absolute bottom section of the mount was rubbing against the spring hat so we shimmed it with a washer anyway. Before you tighten down the top nut, give it a spin to check for binding and rock it side to side gently to make sure it isn't defective. I had bearings like this that I went to install, and upon installation, I noticed that one of them had a bit of "wobble" in them and the actual bearing wasn't fixed in place. Had to get Meyle's to run instead.

Spot on. I just checked the ones I removed and it appears there was some metal to metal contact between the bearing and spring hat. There were not any washers below the bearing. I am going to purchase 2 cup washers to place below the bearings. Would you do this or use a washer #2 on the diagram between the bearing and the spring hat? No need for cup washer above bearing?

I would do just like @halboyles has in their photo above - small extra washer on the bottom. That cup washer is going to seat neatly inside the bottom of the bearing on top of your "shim" washer (at least I think so - that's what mine did). So from top to bottom: 

 

Nut

small washer

sleeved spacer thing

bigger washer

strut mount

thin cup washer

extra shim washer

spring hat

Is the extra shim washer the same one as the bigger washer above?

OBS washer (31331118095) is different from Dust protection collector (31331110196).

part xxxx0196 is not substitute for xxxx8095

Could omit xxxx0196 if you have sealed bearing, but not xxxx8095

I just used a random big one that fit. Not too big. 

 

Take note of @Buckeye's observation too, it appears I missed that distinction
