Idler arm question

As far as the idler arm brushing removal, I used a long 1/4 inch extension to remained the rubber bushing from the outer plastic. Tap the from the top for the bottom bushing and bottom for the top.. then I use a long pin punch to tap the plastic pieces out.. if you break the plastic even easier.. but be careful as they can shatter

Hi Matt, Thanks for responding. Did you mean to write, " I used a long 1/4 inch extension to remove the rubber bushing"?

Actually, for the other bushings I saw a youtube video of a guy putting a torch flame through the bushing hole until the bushing started to melt or catch on fire. This melted the rubber surrounding the steel insert part of the bushing enough so you could pry it out easily with a screw driver. Once the steel was out, the rubber part had no support and would also pop right out. Piece of cake.

 

I gave it a try and it worked like a charm. I wish I had seen that video earlier. A little hillbilly, but it worked really well and was a lot easier than pulling them out intact.

 

Nick, Used my propane torch on the c-arms to meet the metal sleeve. They came out like butter! Thank you!
