72 Tii on BAT

I actually think almost any Miata is a better choice here. Faster, handles better, is more reliable, inexpensive to fix and really fun to drive and modify. Don't knock it until you've driven one. A VERY fun car that's instinct driven.

It's not Italian, but its name does end in a vowel, just like yours, Vince!

What some 02 owners and other collector car owners don't factor in is the WOW factor.  Many classics are cool and fun cars, but the 02 is high on the list of crowd pleasers. How many thumbs up do you get in a day of driving, or how many 6 year olds say "mommy, mommy, look at that car", or octogenarians saying " that's the best car I ever owned", or "had one of those, should never have sold it"? The comments go on and on, and sometimes it's when you are parked beside a supercar which nobody is commenting on.  This factor makes certain buyers stop at nothing to have one.

I get a kick out of the attention and the variety of comments.  My wife not so much.  She likes to be anonymous while driving. I get it.

Back on topic: love the Ceylon.  That was the car I wanted when I bought my Inka in 1990.  Couldn't find a decent Ceylon anywhere at the time.

You should post this separately under cars for sale, regardless of any affiliation or not.

Nah, Mike, I wasn't referring to one of the most iconic sports cars ever built.

And that's Spyder anyway, not Spider.

Meanwhile, the tii is up to $45.5K with one day to go.

I'm thinking it will hit 50k in the last hour

I think 60K.  Or it should based on sales of past cars of this caliber and increasing rarity.

Another 10 years and it (a 99% authentic tii) will be a $100K piece of history, all day long.  IMHO. We've already seen it happen.

If it doesn't hit 60, I will be convinced that the market is soft.

I oversee outside sales for Fantasy Junction in Emeryville (www.fantasyjunction.com), one of the premier vintage & classic consignment shops in the Nation.  The classic car market in general IS extremely soft at this time. This is absolutely across the board, including Porsche, Jaguar, Austin Healey, Alfa Romeo, Ferrari, etc.

Having said that, there is a caveat that the very best cars always command top dollar.

This Ceylon tii isn’t the “best of the best” but it’s damn nice. It will do very well, but it won’t approach the result ($93,500 + buyer’s fee) of the non-sunroof, Baikal ‘73 tii over two years ago (also a damn nice car but not the best of the best). 2017 was a totally different market for the collector car hobby (a nice, 1988 G50 911 Carrera Coupe sold for $37K today; that was a $55-65K car in 2017). I see $50-60K for the Ceylon beauty and well worth it.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
