Need advice from the experts

Hi Everyone!

My uncle located a 1976 automatic for me (perfect for me as I sadly never learned to drive a stick)...and he is doing all of the mechanical work on the car. He had several 2002s when I was a kid, and I always loved them. So this is a dream project...

Reading through the forums, I was hoping to get some direction on a couple of things:

1) I really like the BBS RS 14 in. wheels. Are these still being made? Where would you recommend that I look for a full set in new or like new condition? I’ve searched online without much success. If not possible, open to other suggestions.

2) We need a complete set of chrome trim for the car. Any idea where to find a set in like new or new condition at a fair price?

I really appreciate the help and learning from all of you!

They're pricey--be prepared to pay big bucks for a set.  A much less expensive alternative would be a set of E30 BBS wheels from a 325/318is.  Similar in appearance, considerably less expensive and much more available...

Again--new is gonna be pricey but readily available from Blunt, Maxmillian or W&N (see archives for contact information).  Otherwise, gather the pieces you need (10 for beltline, 8 for knee molding plus the tail panel trim, rain gutter molding etc) from the for sale section of the FAQ, and advertise in the wanted section for what you seek.  As an alternative, if your pieces are merely dinged up and/or the anodizing all clouded, you can straighten them (again, see archives for how-to's) and buff 'em out to look like new, then clearcoat.

Welcome to the 02 fraternity/sorority--and learn how to drive stick.  They're even more fun than the automatics!

Re: chrome trim - it's actually anodized aluminum.  Several owners lately have opted for the chromed plastic strips with adhesive backing, available in your big box parts stores.  A Search will show you the size/results.  Check with BluntTech.com or bmwmobiletradition-online.com for pricing of a new set.

Can have a set of BBS RS or RMs made by Paul Ehrlich Wheelworks. http://ewheelworks.us

The plastic belt line trim is available at Autozone & Advance Autoparts for under $40. New BMW beltline trim was $1400 when it was available.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
