New 2002 Owner, I have so many questions

From your pictures--if you have to trailer the car again, don't use the rear bumper brackets (or the bumper itself, for that matter) for hold-down points.  The rear bumper on roundies--even 73's--is basically just trim; no strength to it.  Use the rear subframe (not the axles) or use the kind of straps that fit over the wheels.

Interior looks nice; the seats have been reupholsered, but have been done with the correct number of pleats and with a closely matching vinyl.  And yeah, that's an early Frigiking, with the correct faceplate for the round shift boot.  And the dash looks un-cracked.  That's very good!

Car looks really clean and nice--and doesn't appear to have any rust.  Is that Malaga paint original?  Great find, regardless.

It has a few bubbles here and there.  It's an older repaint.

So is there an actual FAQ?   Typically automotive forums have a thread with a ton of links and info all in one spot, called the FAQ.  Read that start to finish to get up to speed.  Is there not one?  Am I retarded?

Welcome. It looks like most of your answers have been answered in some form.

The FAQ is an awesome site and I’ve learned a ton over the years. Almost every question has been covered so it’s always best to search first.

This is how I search...

1. Go to google.
2. Type, site:bmw2002faq.com followed by your question.

I like doing it this way because I can preview the thread beforehand.

See my image below for an example.

This site IS the FAQ search especially using the method above.

Ray is okay, don't let him call.

Ooohh…. nice.  You have what I refer to as an "early 71".  There were quite a few changes in mid-71, so take that into account when troubleshooting issues.  The repaint presents very well.  Your car would have run silver-dollar gauges (looks like you've got one left)

And welcome!  We generally like to teach a man to fish around here, as you've undoubtedly picked up on.  Where are you located, and what are your plans with the car?

....Factory AC?...that's good. Hopefully its got  the whole system intact. Maybe it can made to work. Maybe you'll have to replace some stuff. Factory AC was kinda week ...

Just clarifying.... ?

As others have said, A/C was never a factory option on ‘02’s, which is partly why the A/C was weak. Various aftermarket units were designed for ‘02’s after the car was designed, free interior and underhood space was limited, air distribution was constrained by the tidy dashboard design. Thus, all ‘02 A/C was aftermarket, generally installed by the dealer at initial delivery, but it could be installed later, sometimes much later. I installed my ‘76’s Clardy A/C myself the week after I purchased the car — OK, my father helped, reminding me regularly that I was crazy for chopping up my brand new car. ?

Welcome to the forum! Welcome to ‘02 ownership!

Regards,

Steve

Gotta say, as a car person coming from a lot of other forums, it's kind of stupid you guys don't have an organized FAQ.  I mean....for comparison, here's my UrS6 Faq:

https://forums.quattroworld.com/s4s6/msgs/15184.phtml

You guys need something like this, it makes finding information WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY easier.

It's a great idea.  Can't wait to see the progress you make with FAQ project - thanks for offering!

Alright, I've been reading and will read more, but here's the basic plan of attack:

1.  Basic tuneup, plugs, fluids, belts, cap, rotor.   Should points be replaced or can I just lightly sand them?

2.  E brake is sticking pretty bad.  I'm horrible with drum brakes so I'm goign to search more and hopefully find a big thread on how to make sure the drums are working correctly.  Pulled the drums off, saw that the ebrake cables are fine, and that when you pull the lever in the cabin, I can see the cable actuating in the drum.  But once you put the lever back down, nothing moves in the drum.  I'm wondering if I am missing a spring?  There's a spring around the ebrake cable, but I'm not sure how that's suppsoed to return the drum....  I'll look into this but if anyone has threads saved, hit me up

3.  Going to pull the valve cover to clean off the goo, and replace the valve cover gasket.  Might as well adjust the valves....   so I'm going to search for a link for that, too.

4.  Dash is super cracked/broken up.... BUTTTTT the car came with a brand new black dash, no cracks.  How involved is replacing the whole dash?

Thanks in advance, back to searching

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,
