Somebody on the FAQ converted a tii to automatic for his daughter years ago.  Wonder where that one is hiding . . . . .

I recall that, all too well! 🥴 Was it possibly Taiga or Mintgrun?

Regards,

Steve

Don't know about someone on the Faq, but, on Ebay 5 years ago was a '72 Baikal tii that was converted to auto and was being sold (reportedly) by Billie Joe Armstrong of the band Green Day.

The BAT audience would have a field day with it.

Yeah, I remember that one as well, Les!  The ground-up restoration, and automatification of the daughter’s tii was earlier....

It struck me as the work of a BMW-loving father wanting his daughter to drive a tii and she called his bluff, “Whatever, Dad, I’ll drive a tii, if you make it an automatic!”

Best regards,

Steve

This shows the unpredictibility of auctions. Could the subject car get to this  for $26K?

Of course not!  But the market for fun forty-year-old weekend cars has far far more buyers at the $10K level than at the $35K level so you’ve got much more competition for these “project cars”. 😯

In addition, there are lots a “car people” who really love the challenge of turning a wreck into a jewel.

For $35K, you can often buy a car into which someone’s sunk $70K! 😉

Just reporting, happily, that this classic tii has been purchased by a new owner who, with his son, is performing a ground-up restoration.  I’ll let him report in at his own pace and according to his own preferences!

Steve
