Front Sunroof drains - is there another location?

I’ve got a 1972 2002 here undergoing some metal work (repairing the prior lousy attempt at rust repair), and discovered an issue or anomaly: The car has a sunroof, but has no sunroof drains/tubes forward of the A pillar behind the front fender. Did the factory route the drain tubes in any other fashion, other than as shown in the images?

(Frankly - based on what I’m discovering - my guess is the/a prior hack may have added a sunroof top, but didn’t bother to add drains).

Photos show without drains, and metal form a car with drains. -KB

I for one haven't seen another position for the factory front sunroof drains and I've parted out many 02's.

Thanks - and agreed, I’ve not seen them routed another way from the factory (though I never rule-out missing something).

Oh - wait - there’s this, which I found when taking apart the passenger side. Custom! -KB

Sunroof drains on my May 30, 1969 2002

Identical to those on my Feb 69 and Dec 72 2002s...

KBMB02, I think your car had a roofectomy sometime in its past, and they neglected to install the front drains... Your picture of what you discovered under the carpeting is a definite cobble job...

Cobble indeed, Mike.

I'll be adding the holes in proper location and installing drain hoses. -KB

My square tail light car has tubes going to rear wheel well above the tire . The tube is not poking out, the drain hole is flush on the arch.  The hole is inline with the axle nut for visual reference. Tube not visible from the trunk area.

FYI the factory, in its infinite "wisdom" installed the rear sunroof drains so they empty into the rocker panels (!) and are supposed to let water out through those tiny little weep holes along the back-side bottom edge of the rockers.  They don't.  But they will help greatly in rusting out your rear rockers.

A much better solution is to route 'em into the rear wheel wells, just above the rear tire.  Seal the opening well, and cut the hose off so it won't hit the tire under cornering.  If it does touch, it'll set up a weird moaning noise that's transmitted via the drain hose into the headliner just above your head.  (Ask me how I learned this!).

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
