If you're in the Midwest, come join the RGB fall outing--for the past several years Jason Gipson has laid out some really fun back roads in northern KY for a Saturday's drive, AKA The Kentucky Ridge Run.  This year he and Jim Denker are working on a new drive in SE Ohio...should be great fun.  Not all of Ohio is flatlands--SE OH has lots of hills and twisty roads.

+ 1 on The Road To Hana; another great drive is US 212 out the NE corner of Yellowstone...

I have not driven the Alaska Dalton Highway (aka, Haul Road) but, rather, have thumbed its entire dirt-, gravel-, rock-, and boulder-paved length.  Great road in so very many ways; however, I do not recommend driving it.

+1 on the Annual RGB Kentucky/Ohio Ridge Run.  Much fun.

When we were in there a couple years ago i was looking for the roads to take and though Stelvio was at the top of some lists, the biggest complain was that it is ridiculously crowded and also has normal truck rout traffic. We did Furka Pass and Grimselpass on the way to Lauterbrunnen from Lake Como.

If you are traveling through the Finger Lakes region of upstate NY,  any of the drivers up and doe either sides of the big lakes like Seneca, Cayuga, or Keuka.  However. The best road is at the base of Seneca Lake in Watkins Glen.  Take adriving tour of the original 6.6 Mile road course that went around the state park.  It is beautiful, (AND FUN) with all the green in the summer and the the colors in the fall.  Then try to imagine how fast those guys were going in those old cars on those same roads!  Crazy!

I drove this in 2010 (part of my honeymoon) in a ‘reasonably priced car’. It was slightly spoiled for me by my darling wife telling me to slow down all the time.

...then came Bronson....opening scene over the Bixby Bridge...

Big Sur to San Luis Obispo. Sort of a must if your out that way. Just reopened last year after huge mud slides  buried it.

It does suffer from tourist traffic the same as the Hana Highway on Maui. Much more relaxed though. The Hana Highway is ridiculously long, tight and slow and you basically breath tour vans  ass' the whole way. Plus it rains ALOT....

stock photos off the net...looks alot like these pics in real life...

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
