I’d estimate that VIN 1571584 is a 1970 model U.S.-spec 1600 (1600-2, 1602, whatever — same thing), manufactured in May 1970. Does all of this accord with the dates in the Owner’s handbook and other literature?

It was obviously a (wonderful) Atlantik example. And it looks as if Mr. Henson took factory delivery of the car under the European Delivery Program!

Best regards,

Steve

Jeez I'd love that Blaupunkdt manual!  That is so cool!  Is it for multiple models?

Sweet.  I don't have anything like that.  Coolest thing ever is Brian Ach's atlas / BMW Service Center book.

Interestingly, my M3 has the '08 version of that book.

Scott,

The Blaupunkt and Becker manuals are not particularly rare. For either, a full set comes with wiring schematic, operating manual, warranty, service center listing... and more...

Regular searching on eBay will get you one!

Here’s one from my ‘76’s original Europa II, stolen within the first year.

Regards,

Steve

Good to know!  I'm going to look...

Maybe I'll post in "want to buy", too.  Hmm.

1570472 Here, definitely 1970.  Mine was manufactured in mid November 1969, that one being around a thousand after it makes me think more like early-mid spring, March maybe.  I still have the books that were original to the car.  Including the dealer directrory which lists Emmick Motors in Montour Falls.  A tiny European car dealer in a tiny town next to Watkins Glen.  My dad used to bring me there from time to time in the late 60's early 70's to look at all the neat and unusual cars they had.   Mine is Granada....still is!

My estimates are based on dates confirmed by Archives and previously published on this forum. My estimate of May 1970 for VIN 1571584, for instance, was based on VIN 1571242 (April 8, 1970) and VIN 1571321 (April 16, 1970).  Thus, I’m confident the manufacturing date for VIN 1571584 is after April 16th (‘02’s, unlike the Big Coupes — and old Alfa’s 😋 — were produced sequentially, but for a few 1 or 2-day “hold-overs”). How much after April 16th? Well, I’m just guessing, but my track record is pretty good. 😉

Regards,

Steve

Sounds good Steve!  I guess I was thinking they would have made more in that time period.  However I was just making a guess with no numbers or dates other than mine not knowing the actual production total of 1600's for each year.  Very well done 👍and happy fathers day to all!

They couldn't produce them faster because it probably took them 3 days per car to get the door, window  and trunk gaskets in! Another 2 days for the headliner! 😫

Actually, I would have loved to see how these items were done on the assembly line.
