Cam Identification

Slavs

Recommended Posts

Now, that you guys have helped me in identifying my tii pistons (I'm not that familiar with the Tii stuff), I'm trying to ID the cam.

It was a stock cam, but someone decided to regrind it. The rockers or tappets require lash caps. So, I'm sure I won't be using it. But, I'd still like to know what it is.

Whoever reground it also etched "So Cal Cams - 275 degree" on to the chain sprocket mounting surface. Most people who are looking for a cam are looking for something that is in the 280ish or 290ish range. I don't like the way the M10 idles with a high duration cam, at least not for the street. The factory used the 264 degree cam for the standard and the "ti" and "tii" variants. And, that is good enough for me. But, the 275 seems like it would be almost stock, unless it is a different kind of measurement. I've heard the Germans measure duration differently from the Americans.

I *think* the way BMW measures the cams is just the duration of a single lobe, and both intake and exhaust lobes are the same duration, but they don't tell you the lift.  I certainly do prefer the breakdown of individual lift and duration for both intake and exhaust lobes personally, oh well!

I was hoping someone could verify that I have a stock cam.  From what I have researched, it doesn't appear to be a regrind (lobes are above the shaft surface).  On the cam gear end it is stamped "BINF", what does that mean?

Also, just one blue paint line on the shaft.

I see someone has written the cylinder numbers in sharpie on the rockers.  Does that mean it has been rebuilt at some point?

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
