Selling my Jade Green 76 2002, because honestly it's really too nice for me.  This 76 was restored by a meticulous individual in 2001 to near concours standards.  The number of new and NOS parts used in the resto is just something you rarely see.  From large items like the new BMW crate engine, to small items like sunvisors or seatbelts, everything was purchased new from Maximillion.  All body trim, lights, mechanical components, if it couldn't be found new it was refurbished during the build.  

 

The car was stripped to an absolute bare shell during the process.  The engine was a new crate motor from BMW, with 9.5 pistons, a 121 head, and Tii exhaust manifold.  Everything down to the wiring harness was replaced.  Transmission was freshened with new synchros and shifts like perfection.  No stone was left unturned during the build and the car drives as well as it looks, like a new 02 should.  There is apporximately 8K miles on the car since the restoration. 

 

Specs:  

-- 380 Petri steering wheel and hub

-- H&R springs w Bilstein sports

-- BMW crate motor with 121 head, 9.5 pistons, 38mm Weber, Tii exhaust manifold, w Crane ignition

-- Factory 4 speed, rebuilt at time of resto

--  OZ Alpina wheels with new Falken 615's.  Also newly refurbished bottlecap wheels with new tires

--  Authentic Coco mats

-- Custom kick panel speaker boxes made of fiberglass done during the build, with Infiniti reference speakers.

-- Factory tool kit, and jack

 

Once completed the car won several awards at east coast 02 events, including best square taillight at the big East 02 fest.  

 

I've recently converted it to euro bumpers, and while they are mounted properly, I couldn't find a paint shop I felt comfortable with to patch and paint the remaining holes.  Two shops wanted to paint the entire rear quarters after metal work, and another didn't seem interested.  Not wanting to mess up the stunning paint that's there or risk a funny color blend, I simply filled the small holes with JBweld and painted them while the two holes on the sides have colored plugs.  The small holes turned out so well I may go back and fix the plugged holes in the same manner..

 

Also worth mentioning, the E21 sourced recaros's have a slight bend in the backs that is really only noticeable in pics from the rear, but are perfectly comfortable for even longs trips, so I've never looked into fixing.

It’s a nice car but for $40,000 it should be completely stock and have Tii written on the back of it....and even then you’re pushing the limit.

Wasn't aware I was soliciting help with pricing, but thanks, I guess..  You are aware multiple high end Tii's have sold in the 50-90K range?  ..and maybe it's just me, but I don't see a Tii on the tail of any of these below from BAT, the 74 being the only full resto, and to be honest is lacking in many respects.

Those are heat shields, and are actually on both sides on the tunnel.  That pic was mid assembly.

Thanks for recognizing that.  Yes, the price is up there for a 76, but for anybody who has done a restoration to this level you know the cost can be eye watering.   Many consider a car that has been repainted up top and had the seats recovered to be "restored".  This is not that car, even the silly items like windshield wiper arm motor were replaced with new items.  Everything that could be purchased new pretty much was.  Dash (new), gas tank (new), seat belts (new), wiring harness, tail lights, mirrors, trim, and on and on.   

 

..and it is an asking price  ;)

Beautiful car, why not list it on BAT?  This car checks a lot of boxes for BMW 2002's on BAT, small bumpers, euro turn signals, recaros, stance, (minus the 5 speed).  Did they graft an additional inlet connection to the stock air cleaner?  Now they can talk about 2 snorkels.

 

I noticed the 1976 emission equipment was omitted during the restoration, may limit your opportunities for California buyers.  But by far, the nicest restored Jade Grun 1976 BMW 2002 I've ever seen.  The new owner will be thrilled.

$90k Tii wow...to whoever bought that car, what a terrible investment....never good to buy at the absolute all time highest peak in the market.  Of course if this car was sold on an auction site that doesn’t require having a line of credit ready, then I’m sure the buyer never paid.  That’s the problem with judging the car market on auction websites, you don’t know if the sale really ever completed.  Look at eBay, many 2002’s listed with $30k plus buy it nows or very high reserves, most don’t sell.  Look at the sold listings on these sites, you see the real prices people paid, most 2002s are $15k and below, Tii’s in the $20k range for really nice ones.  We all want to sell our classic cars for a profit, but most of what I see in the 2002 market is unrealistic.

Brandon, no offense, but I think you're a little behind on 02 prices, "really nice" Tii's are not in the 20's.  I think you're mixing my car in with run of the mill 02's that may have a nice paint job over aging components, two very different things.  The $93K Tii  https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1973-bmw-2002tii-10/ did sell and was paid for.  BAT is not Ebay, when you make a winning bid your credit card is automatically charged 5% of the sale price, so the bids are not folks just fooling around, the cars sell and are paid for.    Bill

I see you have your car on Ebay now. You will get a higher bid on BAT, where, I think, potential Buyers seem to have a lot more money than sense.

 

This one (below) you noted, was bid to $35,850 on BAT. It has been on Ebay ever since at a price of $50k and the highest bid has been $17k, but generally around the $13~$14k. And it does have the correct style chrome bumper for a square tail light car.

The two others you mentioned are round tail light models and they, for whatever reason, are more sought after than square tail light cars.

 

Your car is fine looking but don't be depressed when it remains unsold on Ebay……...try BAT.

Just curious what kind of satisfaction you receive from belittling someone regarding their selling price point?

Thanks Les, it's just a one week ad, not a auction.  I've got BAT lined up for an auction, but that takes some time, and honestly I prefer to represent and sell items myself, but as you say BAT may be the best showcase for this car.
