Found tii # 2782125 today

Or more precisely, what’s left of it.

Went to the other side of the island today to check out a friend’s newly built garage/shop and his cars. He owns to ‘70 2002s, a NK an E30 318is and an E30 325i convertible.

On my way back, I stopped halfway for lunch and check out some cars owned by a gentleman I had corresponded on and off for a few years.

This is what I found:

The owner said that he had left it at the family farm stored in a barn after it was hit in the driver’s side fender. He didn’t bother to go back for years and when he did, it had been picked up with a loader and thrown in the middle of a field, where it rotted away.

Here are the photos I took today:

He bought this one, also years ago, to transfer all the tii goodies:

He doesn’t really want to sell them, but I don’t think they will live again if he doesn’t.

On a brighter note, another friend sent me pics of this Granatrot tii that is being restored:

I need to update my list, but I believe I have already identified 100 2002s here in Puerto Rico!

Cheers,

Thanks, Harry.

Conceivably, that beautiful car could have been bon within a day of mine (2782059).  They ended up so far apart in so many ways.  Maybe with the right time, funds, and touch it could...naaaaah, no way.  Bummer.

That's the rustiest 02 I have ever seen,

Even the oil filler cap has rusted thru... Incredible...

I like the look of that granatrot,  harry (I have a granatrot ‘74 base).   Here’s a couple of photos of a granatrot Alpina that sold at auction a few years ago, if your friend has not already seen them.  Something to aspire to.

That car is sweet! Granatrot is such a pretty color.

Hi Harry. You should soon be able to add my 2002 to the list. It and the 2002 M Roadster ship from JAX to SJU tomorrow.

BTW, there is a Fjord 1974 tii in Aguadilla. I don’t think it’s moved in a few years. The owner is not selling.

Great news!! We have a get-together planned for Saturday 6/15 at Pinones Beach and will be doing some parade laps at the races at Salinas on August 4. Hope you can join us with your 2002!

Even a good re-paint doesn’t last forever.... ?

Agreed - but mine is in good enough shape that it'll be quite a while before the amount of work required to do a repaint right could be justified. But yes, when that day comes, it'll go back to granatrot. In the meantime I have plenty of things to do.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
