Converting Shifter Linkage from Early to Late Style

Hello folks,

 

I'm in the process of rebuilding my shifter, though noticed that my '76 has an early style linkage.

 

In order to keep things consistent, I'm looking to convert to a late style linkage.

 

Besides the straight selector rod (pictured), is there anything else that needs to be purchased in order to complete a early to late shifter conversion?

You need to look on realoem.com-

 

you'll need a different shift lever, socket for the transmission, and probably shift platform, too.  

 

Andrew will disagree with me, but I don't think the later shifter is an upgrade- look at UUC's  flaunted "double shear" products...

 

...and then model the force vectors of side- to- side motion, and how they're transmitted through each shifter.

jgerock shows pictures of the conversion and the parts required.  You use the same shift platform.

+1...The usual wear items in the earlier "fork & blade" linkage are a couple of nylon bushings and the clevis pin, both easily replaced.  On the later style, the rod you pictured is the wear point--both of the pins at each end of the rod wear, and a little slop there translates to a lot at the shift knob.
