If you do something like that, have it switch the ground, not the hot...

 

mine's in the cabin, but then, so's my battery...

 

we have discovered that those do not much like getting wet.

A different approach that I am going to follow is to add a 60A circuit breaker between the battery positive terminal and the 6mm2 wires that go via the ‘solder point’ to the fuse box and ignition switch. This will protect the wiring between the battery and downstream fuses (or at least the stuff which can carry more than 60A) and allows me to cut the functional feeds from the battery. Won’t cut the feed to the starter motor but that doesn’t matter. No supply to energise the starter solenoid works the same. 

 

Breaker looks like this:

I will install it just above the battery on the front panel.

it actually does matter if you use the switch for working on the car and not just a theft deterant.  without also cutting the starter motor, you have a bit hot lead and terminal in the engine compt for a wrench to drop on and arc.  i make sure battery disconnect switches cut off ALL the power.

I wouldn’t use it to work on the car. One bolt to remove the negative terminal is what I do whenever I do anything more substantial than checking the oil.

I wanted to shut the whole electrical system down while the car is not being used but found that the clock would drain down the battery. For a while, I just disconnected the battery. Did a negative shutoff instead.

I now disagree with some of the timing advice I have given in the past.  I misinterpreted the distributor curves in the Blue Book. 

I've switched from using ported-vacuum to manifold, with better results. 

I apologize for spreading misinformation.
