Nothing like a fresh wash and wax!

I rubbed some Meguiar's No. 7 into my chalky mint paint the other day.  That deepened the green a bit.  Temporary though it may be.  I should wax it too, to make it easier to wash.  My car will never be glossy unfortunately, due to crazing paint.  It matches the frosted aluminum trim though.  :P 

 

Subtle difference in the photo.  ( just the driver's side done).

I now disagree with some of the timing advice I have given in the past.  I misinterpreted the distributor curves in the Blue Book. 

I've switched from using ported-vacuum to manifold, with better results. 

I apologize for spreading misinformation.

Not that subtle Tom, I think that actually looks like quite an improvement!  And while it doesn't really bother me, you might notices that despite matching the correct paint codes for my respray, it for whatever reason came out a bit more yellow/less blue than your original mint.  Can't really tell unless compared back to back against an original, but I'm still curious as to why.  Probably will never know!

I see a lot of different greens referred to as Mintgrun.  Yours is one of the prettier shades, imho.

 

The No. 7 actually makes a big difference with this paint.  It is hard to make it show in a photo though.  I like that stuff.

 

The paint on my hood is not original.  Somebody goofed when they resprayed the car and the paint is covered in tiny cracks.  I thought they were scratches, so I wet sanded and polished it a few years ago.  Even that did not make it shiny.  Now I wish I could put all that paint back on ! :D

They did do a good job matching the color though.  The original stuff in the door jams and under the hood is almost identical, just a much nicer finish.  While washing the car, I sometimes wish it was shinier, just to highlight all the pretty shapes and curves.  It probably fits my lifestyle better this way.

Yes, some of the paint codes for Mintgrun between paint manufacturers are slightly different from OEM.  I ended up with 2 resprays until I got a decent match with the original paint. (first try, final paint)

 

AustrianVespaGuy, your beltline trim replacement looks great, I would consider using that over trying to source over-priced anodized aluminum trim anyday.  What did you end up using?

Wow @Mark92131, yeah that looks spot on to my eye as to what fresh Mint *should* look like, very nice! Out of curiosity, do you know what paint formulation you ended up with?

To answer your question, I used the cheapy Autozone 3M adhesive backed plastic chrome trim, I think 10mm width.  The trick I found to getting it to look good was to stick it on a little long and then use a razor blade to trim it at just the right angles at all of the gaps.

Tom, the paint cracks on your hood may be caused buy a type of high fill primer that was used in the 70/80's to fill sanding marks etc and save time, years later it would telegraph the scratches through the paint and lead to cracking that will grow over time. The newer primers are much better than the gen-one paint.

I had the this happen on my Fjord 2002 when the dealer repainted under warranty after the original failed.  I stripped and repainted again in 82.

I had it painted (twice) at Classics Auto Body & Collision in Ramona CA.  The painter was Carlos at (760) 788-1466.  The first go around was too milky for Mintgrun, so they went back to the manufacturer's rep and they came back with another formula.  Unfortunately, they didn't share it.  I was also interested in getting a formula for a car painted by Coupe King that looked right for Mintgrun, but didn't get a response.

 

Thanks for the info on the beltline trim, looks great.
