if you have another, swap it and see - maybe someone can chime in with a part number for you...

Mine was a couple of bad grounds (one off the instrument cluster and the other the Rr front signal housing)! Very rarely do relays let go. Also check the bulb contacts while you're at it!! coat any contacts with some dielectric grease for good measure :)

of the relay; have the key in the accessories position so you can activate the blinkers and watch the rear of the relay as the blinkers are on. There are a set of contact points and one of them may need to be bent back in place. New relays are about $30.00 ( hopefully that price is still active as 2002 parts are set to skyrocket again )., local BMW dealer may actually have them, if not, the usual 2002 parts suppliers ( Bimmer Parts Company, Maxmillian Importing, 2002Haus, La Jolla Independent to name a few., best,

there can actually be dirt in the secondary contacts that trip the dash light. The secondary coils often get overheated and short. Sometimes they get worn, and need to be regapped...

The flasher current flows through the secondary relay and trips the indicator- and the indicator circuit or secondary relay is usually what craps...

on these cars. The sheet metal screws for the front assemblies need to be free of rust, same with the mounting holes and the inner assembly needs to have clean/unbrittle/unoxidized wiring where they attach., strip back the casing of the wire if brittle/oxidized to obtain cleaner wire and replace the sheet metal mounting screws if rusty and sand the mounting holes at the fenders for a good, clean ground.

Had the same symtoms, changed the relay, now perfect. It's under the dash, drivers side against the side clipped up real high on the wall. Slide it straight up to unclip it from the hole it's clipped in.
