Hi everyone,

while searching for some photos on my computer I just stumbled across these and thought they might be worth sharing. First ever made 2000 touring automatic does still exist and over all isn´t in a too bad shape.

Resides in a collection in Germany and is waiting for restöration.

Best regards, Lars.

First there was the love affair for Inka. Now it has moved on to Bristol. When does Sahara get its turn? HA!

What about Inka and Verona combined with Nevada, then all changed to Riviera?  Do these colors make my car more valuable?

Jim: Perhaps you can turn it into a Harlequin version 2002. Cram as many colors in as you can! It would be a massive hit.

The VIN decoder provided by the BMW 2002 Club of Columbia provides a range of May through December 1971 for VIN 3400001.

As you, no doubt, are aware, the touring model appeared approximately with the emergence of the substantial, but largely cosmetic, upgrade known as the Modell 71 (April 1971).

My gut, which is only occasionally correct, suggests the first automatic version probably appeared closer to May 1971 than to December 1971!

Regards,

Steve

This what I have from various sources.

LHD 2000 Touring mod 71 - April 1971 to Aug 1973

RHD 2000 Touring mod 71 - Sep 1971 to Aug 1973

LHD 2000tii Touring mod 71 - Apr 1971 (two sources state Jan '71) to Aug 1973

LHD 2000A Touring mod 71 - May 1971 to Sep 1972

LHD 1800 Touring mod 71 - Oct 1971 to Aug 1973

LHD 1600 Touring mod 71 - Apr '71 to Aug 1973

Mod 73 for all above (except 1600 Touring) began Aug 1973 and ended Apr 1974.

If anyone knows of any errors here, please let me know.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
