volvo brake upgrade

I've noted several references to "machining" E21 hubs for the upgrade.  Can anyone provide a detailed description and/or pictures of the maching necessary to get the hubs to work.  During trial fitting i noted the unmachined hub would allow the e21 "turbine" wheels to fit and the BWA wheels fit, however my steel wheels would not fit over the end of the hub.  All this fitting was done with out the calipers in place noting there will some material that will have to be removed from the caliper to make everything align.   I also noted the E21 hub is approx 6 mm shorter than the stock hub which may require use of spacer to get back to acceptable track width at front; any experience with this fitment problem?

I have the IE Volvo brake upgrade and have been running E30 14” wheels for about 10 years. I also have a 14 in spare but am considering going back to a 13” spare with a narrow tire or a Mini or Miata temp spare to fit in the well for a flat floor.

thanks guys, but to the original question regarding machining the hubs.  I understand some "grinding" of the calipers may have to be done to get some wheels to fit but I believe there must be some amount of machining of the hubs that should/must be done for some unexplained reason.  perhaps the  folks who have advertised "with machined hubs" are actually referring to the ground I.e. machined calipers.  Anyone with experience with this "machined" hub conundrum?

Are you thinking of the rear hubs for the VW disk brake conversion? There is no need to machine the front hubs for the Volvo Girling conversion.

No machining required on the front hubs as bento indicated.  There is some optional machining required on the caliper mounting holes to get the caliper to sit down completely on the rotor.  I did this conversion without modifying the caliper mounting holes, worked fine with the 14" E30 Bottlecaps I was running.

Thanks for all the info.  My application is for the volvo front conversion.  Mark,  I can see where the caliper mounting holes  may need to be slotted to get the pads to work properly.  Again thanks for the info
